There you were last Thursday morning, coffee clutched in hand with your inbox open, ready to read the latest edition of your favorite Pinterest marketing newsletter when...
What? This can't be right? No Thursday Press waiting for me in my inbox? Maybe Sarah forgot to schedule it and I'll get it this afternoon. 🤔
But afternoon comes and goes, and you realize the digital delivery person isn't coming.
ðŸ’ðŸ’ðŸ’
..or at least that's what I like to imagine you were feeling last week.
(You won't hurt my feelings if not.)
TBH, last Thursday I was sitting on a dock overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway with no clue what day it was.
Did I bring my laptop with the intention of writing and scheduling a quick email? Yep.
Did I pull it out even once? Nope.
And I don't regret it. But I do regret breaking our weekly inbox date!
Sorry to leave ya hanging, pal.
To make it up to you, this month's Friday Favorites is getting a sprinkling of Thursday Press flair, with a lil Pinterest tip for ya in the "What I'm Learning" section.
WHAT I'M LEARNING
Sometimes it's okay to break the rules.
As long as I can remember, the touted best practice for Pinterest pin sizes was 2:3 ratio, 1000x1500 px.
And that's still true!
But out of curiosity, I've been experimenting with creating longer pin designs (anywhere from 1600-1750 px long) just to see if the bigger size helped the graphics stand out in the feed.
While I haven't run a scientifically-approved A/B-testing experiment on it, I do think there's some merit to the larger pins getting more attention.
In general, this month I've been paying a lot of attention to my clients' pin designs – creating new templates, switching up the sizes, and making sure the text is SUPER readable.
When over 80% of Pinterest users are on the mobile version, you can't expect to use tiny font sizes and have the text still be readable.
As consumers, we're taking in so much information at all times, which means it's extra important that your own content stands out and captures attention as quickly as possible.
A few ways to do that include using big fonts, longer pin images, bold or bright colors, or other graphics to create emphasis.
WHAT I'M LOVING
Favorite Book: Buckle up besties, are you ready to get book-fluenced? I've got 3 recs for you today that all instantly went onto my "Favorites" shelf on Goodreads.
The first one I technically read in May, but it was after last month's Friday Favorites email went out, so I have to include it: The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston. This book's male main character is 100% inspired by Adam Driver/Kylo Ren (like a surprising amount of popular romance books now), but if you can put that and the at-times painful millennialisms (doggo) aside, it was excellent.
Next up: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. I didn't read the summary of this book before reading it, and I'm glad I didn't, because I don't think I would've picked it up if I had. Quoting from my review: "This book was a delight. Unpretentiously smart, achingly human, and all-encompassing." On hindsight, it might be a bit pretentious, but I still enjoyed it.
And finally. FINALLY: Happy Place by Emily Henry. Will Emily Henry ever write a book I don't recommend? This book felt like therapy in a novel and was an absolute love letter to families both found and otherwise. I wish I could read it for the first time again!
Favorite Desk Tunes: I've been waking up every morning with a different Noah Kahan song already earworming its way into my brain, so it's safe to say my most listened-to album this month is his deluxe edition of Stick Season (We'll All Be Here Forever).
Favorite Self-Care Activity: While I normally try to get at least an outdoor walk in every day, with rising temperatures and persistent air quality alerts, it's been harder to lace up this month. So I lowered the bar.
If I can spend just 5 minutes outside, soaking up the sunshine, it does a world of good for my mood and energy levels, especially around that afternoon slump sweet spot!
Favorite Posts: ICYMI, here are 2 of my favorite Instagram posts from June!Â
Favorite Coffee Order: I'm a firm believer that mint flavor doesn't just have to be for Christmastime. I love adding a few pumps of peppermint syrup (or lately the new white chocolate mint sauce from Starbucks) to an iced latte or cold brew for a not-too-sweet summer treat!
And of course, here's this month's favorite cat pictures:
It's safe to say they missed us while we were at the beach… my arms are getting a workout from all this petting I have to do!
June was wild and wooly and wonderful. We spent a lot of time with Caroline's family celebrating milestones and spending the week in Oak Island (peep a mini-vlog here).
I also onboarded a new management client and sent off several account setups and audits, which always make me so excited for the businesses getting their feet wet on Pinterest!
In case you haven't heard it enough already, we're headed into Q3 tomorrow! 😳
If one of your goals for the second half of the year is to start getting more leads or prepare for a launch this fall, now is the time to get your business on Pinterest, not as a last-second hail Mary.
Need some help getting started? Or getting it off your plate entirely? I've gotcha covered. 😉
