Thursday Press #65: how I really feel about the walking pad trend
[27 JAN 2023] Lifestyle Edition Vol. 011
Whaaaattt upppppp?!?!
I know I'm coming in a little hot for this email, but I can't help it! I'm just too pumped for the first monthly favorites of 2023!
If you need a refresher, I send out these emails on the last Friday of every month instead of our usual Thursday inbox date and share a selection of favorite ~things~ from that month.
Because sometimes you'd rather chat about your latest Netflix obsession or a random recipe you tried than consume anOTHER biz tip.
Let's dive in, shall we?
Favorite Follow: I've been trying to spend less time scrolling on social, so I don't know if I could choose a single favorite, so here's a quick list of people you should be following if you don't:
@alexa.c.donner – Done in a Day Designer
@mariahmagazineco – SEO & Visibility Strategist
@broccyourbody – all the recipes I've saved lately have come from Carissa!
Favorite Movie/Show: No one could ever accuse me of being “with the cultural times" — this month we finally watched Wednesday. I had my doubts, but it was every bit as good as promised!
Fun little tangent – my partner and I hyperfixated on the use of the word “snood” (no spoilers here, I promise). So I did a Google Trends search for the word, and what do ya know? Users searched “snood” at an all-time high during the exact week the show was peaking in popularity.
It just goes to show how powerful pop culture and trends are! Now back to the favorites…
Favorite Desk Tunes: Fiiinally, I have a new “album on repeat” to share with y'all. Reneé Rapp of The Sex Lives of College Girls (and apparently Broadway) fame released her debut album last year, but I probably play it at least once a day.
Favorite Self Care Activity: I'm officially a walking pad girlie!! If you've missed this WFH TikTok trend (@hauskris I blame you), the walking-pad-standing-desk combo is taking the world by storm.
And it's absolutely rocking my world! I rarely actually work and walk (except for right this minute lol?) but being able to read on my Kindle while walking? GAME CHANGER. I could walk for hours.
Oh, and as for how this relates to self-care… one of my 2023 goals is to walk at least 30 mins every day. It works wonders for getting out of a mid-afternoon or post-call-transition slump.
Favorite Coffee Order: I don't think I've actually had coffee anywhere outside of my home this month? WILD. But I've really been in my hazelnut coffee era. I love the Nespresso pods (out of stock now sry) but any hazelnut coffee beans satisfy a cozy vibe that seems perfect for cold January mornings.
And of course, here's this month's favorite cat picture:
We got a new blanket and it means that lately Willow and Griffin spend 90% of every evening curled up on my partner's lap… I don't feel neglected at all 🥲. Pet owners, let me know if you can relate!
