Thursday Press #63: 3 simple steps to plan your Pinterest strategy
[12 JAN 2023] getting vulnerable with you...
Can I be vulnerable with you friend?
I've shared a little bit about my mental health journey on IG, and one of the biggest helps in that has been seeing a therapist regularly
That 12 p.m. weekly recurring Wednesday meeting has been the longest-standing appointment on my calendar.
And today I want to share a little snippet of this week's session with you.
(Actually, I'd love to do a whole “things I've learned in therapy” blog post eventually… anyone interested?)
Here's the thing — I'm not always at my best when frustration levels rise (who is?)
That means I don't always react exactly the way I'd want to.
Hello snappy behavior & passive aggression 🫣
This week, I asked my therapist for strategies to deal with those situations more appropriately, and this is what she said:
Name it to tame it — a phrase coined by Dan Siegel that suggests putting a name to an emotion can help control/reduce it
Ask yourself what the “healthy” thing to do is (and then do it)
Discharge the physical feelings of the emotion — take a walk, dance it out, whatevs
I walked away from this session feeling so much lighter.
I had a concrete, very doable plan in place. I can do this.
You can too.
Obviously, we're pivoting this to talk about your marketing, because I'm not going to therapy info-dump on you without sharing something in return…
It's easy to get caught up in the flow of things. In the go, go, go of whatever your current routine is.
On the flip side, it's hard to press stop on that pattern to consider what you should actually be doing to grow your business.
Luckily for us, we were just handed a break on a silver platter in the form of 2023.
Most people are still getting back into the office and in the swing of things, so it's the perfect time to refocus and come up with a concrete, sustainable plan for your Pinterest marketing.
And not just something you plan once super intensively and then never have time to do again.
No siree, I'm giving you a 3-step plan to move forward with your Pinterest strategy that's as simple as it is effective.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE PINTEREST STRATEGY
1. What are your goals from Pinterest?
These can be short-term or long-term, and they can change as your business (or life) changes!
2. What content do you currently have that will help you achieve those goals?
Want to build brand awareness? Post lots of saveable content and idea pins (infographics and portfolio pieces do particularly well her)
Want to drive traffic & email list growth? Post juicy & bite-sized tip-based or how-to content that funnels to a no-brainer lead magnet
3. How often can you realistically create and post that content on Pinterest?
From the time you have available and what you know you want to post, you have a plan that you can reliably take action on.
& you can repeat this process whenever you need to!
Check in with your goals frequently — are they still aligned? Do you have any new content that would be a good fit for Pinterest?
Your Pinterest strategy doesn't have to be complicated, but it needs to be more than just “repost from IG” or “3 pins for every new blog”.
If you're spinning your wheels on how to create a Pinterest strategy or how to even get started on the platform in the first place, that's what I'm here for 🫶
