Thursday Press #22: You'll want to open this if you're new to Pinterest
[24 MAR 2022] a shoutout to the new kids
THIS ONE GOES OUT TO ALL THE NEW KIDS
I moved around a TON as a kid, making a cross-country move at least once every three years (#militarykidthings) and hopping around a bunch of different schools – 4 elementary and 2 middle to be precise.
So I'm no stranger to being the new kid.
And even though I got really good at packing up all of my toys and books and loved picking out my new room's paint color, I hated joining a new school and not knowing anything.
From figuring out where the classrooms were to learning the different written and unwritten rules for each social situation, adjusting was hard.
It can sort of feel like that on Pinterest now. You may think that Pinterest has had its heyday, and if you didn't join at the heigh of popularity and skyrocketing page views, what's the point?
Trust me, there are plenty of reasons to still join Pinterest, even if you've never pinned before.
But I'll save those reasons for another day.
Today, I want to help you skip that awkward new kid phase and dive right into being a Pinterest pro, all of which starts before even creating a single pin…
1. Content Audit
Before you start thinking about the beautiful pins you'll design and the keywords you'll use, take a step back and audit your current content:
What blog posts, lead magnets, products, video content, etc. do you have to promote on Pinterest?
Do they align with your end goal from the platform? (product sales, email signups, traffic, client inquiries, you name it)
If not, or if you don't have enough content, you might want to spend some time developing content that will appeal to your Pinterest audience. Because when those people start landing on your website, we want them to have a reason to stick around.
2. Setting Up Your Pinterest Business Account
Unlock detailed analytics, fill in all your business info, and claim your website.
This could turn into a MUCH longer email, so out of respect for your time (and mine), I'll keep it short and sweet!
3. Keyword Research
As you set up your Pinterest Business account, you'll need to fill in your title, bio, and boards with relevant keywords, but in order to do that, you need to find them first!
Looking at the content you already create, come up with 3-5 main content topics you talk about. These will be your main keywords.
Head over to your Pinterest home feed and type one of those content topics into the search bar. The dropdown will automatically populate with suggested searches that Pinterest users are already looking for – those are your keywords and phrases!
Repeat!
There are a bunch of different ways to do keyword research for Pinterest, but this way never fails, and it's a great place to get started!
Before I sign off and let you get back to enjoying SPRING (!), I'm also going to share some of my favorite resources if you're just starting out on Pinterest, all vetted for current and relevant info!
