Since we're in the middle of our “growing your email list with Pinterest” series, I'm swapping what I've learned for a section on what you're learning, because the learning don't stop around here, k?
Last week we talked all about welcome sequences and why you shouldn't ghost your subscribers.
You can catch up on Week 0 and Week 1 here!
Today, it's time to tackle the actual Pinterest side of things. After all, this isn't just a series on growing your email list generally, it's all about using Pinterest to grow that list.
So… where should we start?
I could start with the importance of building a solid foundation…
Or an overview of Pinterest basics…
Or even clear up some of the most dastardly misconceptions about Pinterest marketing…
But I get the sense we're a bit beyond that, yeah? You're ready to take action and take action NOW.
If you want to get email subscribers from Pinterest, you need to create pins promoting your lead magnet!
WHAT you're LEARNING
There are a few different ways to drive Pinterest traffic to your list, so let's get right into it:
1. Publish pins linking directly to your freebie
That's right, you don't just have to pin your blog posts! You can — and should — pin directly to your lead magnet opt-in page.
The pins you create for your freebies are going to be much more promotional in style, similar to how you would create pins for a digital product. Some best practices to consider include:
Use a mockup of the lead magnet on the pin graphic
Make it super obvious that it's free
Include a call to action
Lead with the benefits, not the lead magnet name
Use relevant keywords in the pin graphic, title, and description
Create multiple different pins for your lead magnet, varying your keywords and headlines
2. Create pins for blog content related to your freebie
I know I said you don't have to pin to blogs, but the truth is you probably should be blogging if you're Pinterest marketing.
If you already have a blog, scan through your content for any posts related to the topic of your freebie.
If you don't have any or you haven't started blogging for your business yet, now is the perfect time!
You can create new blogs specifically with the intention of driving email sign-ups by blogging on related topics or giving just the introductory information, then including a CTA to your lead magnet for readers to get more in-depth info.
Once you've identified which blogs you want to promote related to your lead magnet, create pins for them just like you would any other blog post!
There's a lot you can do on Pinterest to support your email list growth, but both of these steps start taking your audience off the platform and onto your website, where there are more opportunities to optimize for conversion.
Next week, I'll be sharing my tips for optimizing your lead magnet landing pages and blog posts to turn those clicks into subscribers.
But for now, let's get into the lifestyle portion of this lifestyle edition…
WHAT I'M LOVING
Favorite Book: Gay soccer rivalry with a punny title? Automatic purchase. So when I finally got around to reading Meryl Wilsner's Cleat Cute, of freakin' COURSE I gave it 5 stars. Bonus points for unexpected ADHD & ASD representation!
Favorite Watch: Yeah yeah yeah, Bridgerton Season 3, yada yada. Evvvveryone was talking about it, and it was just as good as expected. But you either (a) already knew that, or (b) have already decided not to care.
What you might not have seen yet is Love Has Won, the documentary about “the cult of Mother God” that literally made my jaw drop. I swear, I had no fewer than 5 “WTF?!?!?!?!” moments in every episode of the 3-episode mini-series.
If you're into it, give it a watch. And if you've already seen it, please tell me so we can talk about it!!!
Favorite Desk Tunes: I've had to take a break from my lo-fi beats… (pause for gasps of shock and horror)
They just haven't been hitting the same! I also don't want to pull out the big guns if I don't actually need to get into that intense hyperfocus.
Instead, what I've been pressing play on recently is this Bossa Nova playlist from Spotify (or you can pick your fav). It's mostly instrumental or in another language, so I can still write to it, but it's upbeat, fun, and jazzy. It's like French jazz's sunny cousin.
Favorite Purchase: I notoriously hate most face sunscreens. They're too thick, too greasy, too white, too scented, or they burn when I inevitably start sweating. I've been vibing with the Good Molecules sunscreen for a while quite happily, but a new contender has taken its place…
Beauty of Joseon.
They have a few different sun protection products, including cream, stick, and spray formulas. My favorite so far is the cream. It's literally weightless and just all around perfect.
If you need a new sunscreen rec, give this a try! When I went to grab the link for you, I realized they're also currently having a 30% summer sale?! Love that for us.
Fave Save: Everything @ohsierracreative posts, always, but especially this one.
Same goes for everything @marisajo posts, but especially this thread on newsletters.
Favorite Coffee Order: Toasted coconut iced latte, or really just anything iced. It's too damn hot for anything else most days!
And of course, here's this month's favorite cat picture:
The butt as pillow… I cry 🥹
To be frank, bestie, the fact that we're ~haLfWaY tHrOuGh tHe yEaR~ is G-R-O-S-S.
But I'm pushing through anyway. Time passes, and all we can do is make the most of it. Every day is a new day, every week is a new week, and together, we've got this!
