Thursday Press #117: the old blogging can't come to the phone rn...
[1 FEB 2024] my mic drop moment
“We'll always have Princeton and our apartment in Boston and our 12 knightly kittens.”
^^ This is the kind of best friendship I could've only DREAMED of when I was younger, and is a very real excerpt from my high school yearbook. (Just picture it written in purple glitter pen.)
Now, this friend and I don't currently live together in Boston with 12 cats. Honestly, we haven't even talked in a few years...
But for those 4 years of high school? Inseparable.
Comparing Buzzfeed quiz results like they were horoscopes, gabbing about the latest paparazzi sighting of our favorite niche British actors, and laughing louder than acceptable in public at the Panera next to our school.
That kind of friendship is exactly what blogging and Pinterest are to each other.
YEAH, I'M HERE TO TELL YOU TO BLOG, WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?
Okay, sorry, that was aggressive. But that's how passionate I am that you should be blogging. No ifs, ands, or buts about it!!!!
Blogging has gotten almost as bad of a reputation as the algorithm or Taylor Swift in 2016.
But just like Taylor Swift, blogging never died. Well, the old blogging did.
If I say "blog," what do you picture?
The novel-length intro to that recipe you wanted to try last night?
A lifestyle blogger's monthly wrap up peppered with affiliate links?
An overly formal article posted on some company's website?
While yes, a blog can be those things, that's not the only format blogs can take.
I'm gonna hit you straight up with the big takeaway of this email because I don't want you to miss it. Ready?
If you want to market your business on Pinterest, you should be blogging consistently.
And if you're blogging, you really should be marketing on Pinterest.
Don't blame the messenger! I don't like it any more than you do!
When writer's block hits or your power unexpectedly goes out in the middle of drafting your weekly post (hi, that was me yesterday), it can be hard to remember why you're putting all this effort in.
I'll remind you in a sec, but first I need to tell you why I'm begging you to blog, because it's not just for kicks and grins. 🤪
The Pinterest algorithm used to be easy to "hack" by repinning the same blog post over and over again. But in 2020, Pinterest cracked down on that and explicitly stated they would be prioritizing new original content from creators.
Don't believe me? Check out these words straight from the horse's mouth (aka, the Pinterest community guidelines):
>> “Don’t create or save content that is repetitive”
>> “Publish new and timely content regularly”
>> “Websites should have original content that adds unique value for Pinners”
Pinterest wants its creators to be creating new, original, and unique content. They straight up tell you exactly how to succeed on Pinterest!
Now, of course, Pinterest doesn’t specify that you haaaave to use blogs as that content vehicle… But if you ask me — and because you're here, you basically did — it’s the simplest way to create consistent content that also benefits your business as a whole.
BELOW THE FOLD
Blogging in general is one of the best things you can do for your content marketing strategy. Here's why:
Each blog is another chance to get your website ranking in Google searches
Publishing blogs consistently keeps your website up-to-date (which also makes Google happy)
Blogs provide crucial information to potential customers along the path to purchase
Writing blogs can help you structure a sustainable content-repurposing workflow
Essentially, blogs help your business get more visibility, make more money, and save more time. Who wouldn't want that?!?!
The truth of the matter is that all the algorithms want more content, but there are only so many hours in the day.
Personally, I'd rather not spend those hours trying to keep up with the content creation schedule of a full-time influencer.
That's where the dynamic duo of Pinterest and blogging come in.
Blogs give you tons of valuable, trust-building content to promote on Pinterest, while Pinterest increases your visibility to new, ready-to-buy audiences without have to be online 24/7 or spend half your marketing budget on ads.
But you already knew that, didn't you bestie?
You don't need another lecture about why Pinterest and blogging are the best long-term content marketing strategy.
What you need is someone to tell you how the heck to actually implement that strategy in a way that's simple, effective, and makes sense for your business.
That's exactly what I'm going to be teaching you in the upcoming Pinterest Blogging Workshop!
On Thursday, February 15 @ 1 pm EST, Sara Noel of BTL Copy and I are hosting a live, 90-minute workshop all about blogging from a Pinterest perspective!
Here are just a few of the things we'll be covering:
How Pinterest and blogs work together for your business
The best kinds of content to market on Pinterest
Blog-writing tips to turn readers into raving fans + clients
How to use Pinterest to plan your blog content
I've been working on Sara's Pinterest account for almost 4 years now, and between her blogs and my Pinterest strategy, her business has gained 18k+ followers, over 2 million monthly views, thousands of email subscribers, and so much more!
Trust me when I say we KNOW what we're talking about.

Even More Reasons You Should Be Blogging
How to Make Your Blogs Actually Convert
I'd say I'll get off my blogging soapbox now, but I don't want to lie to you, bestie.
Instead, I think the best I can aim for is that this email gave more "fun peer pressure into good things" vibes and less "parent telling you to clean your room" trauma.
Let me know, did I hit the right tone? Or am I giving you high school flashbacks?
Honestly, sometimes our parents really did know best, as much as I HATE to admit it. So even if I am giving "mother knows best" energy, well... I'm right lmao.
If you've got any specific Qs about blogging and/or Pinterest, reply and let me know! The workshop is still in development and I want to make sure it's exactly what you need!
