Thursday Press #1: Q3, Q-schmee...
[1 JULY 2021] The inaugural newsletter and some thoughts about ~goals~
WHAT I ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT QUARTERLY GOALS…
But first, let me welcome you in to the first ~official~ newsletter! I won't take up your time with too much preamble, because I'm more of a jump-right-in, pretend we've been friends forever kinda gal. If that's you too, you're meant to be here! Hi, how's the fam?
I'm about to spill all my thoughts on goals and goal-setting in the online entrepreneur space, but starting a newsletter was one of my goals, and hey! It's happening! I'll be dropping by your inbox every other Thursday morning (or so) with my latest thoughts on entrepreneurship, Pinterest, and a fun recommendation for you (book, Netflix show, podcast, etc.)
Now on to the email…
So, it's July 1. The beginning of a new month, a new quarter, and the second half of the year.
I'd be surprised if I was the first person in your inbox today talking about goals, planning, or even talking about how fast the time flies. (But really, who strapped a turbo jet to this year?)
I avoid setting goals. Not on purpose, but once you put those things on paper, they become real. And that's part of the point. But mostly, I avoid sharing goals publicly. So much of social media fuels the little comparison monster inside of us, and I don't need to add my personal goals into that.
However…
I'm also a little bit of a hypocrite. Because goals are super important! Especially when it comes to our main subject of today (and most days) – Pinterest!
I keep having this conversation in the DMs:
“Should I be using Pinterest?”
“Can I use Pinterest if I don't have a blog?”
… and it all boils down to me asking this question: “What are your goals from Pinterest?”
(psst: this is also a question on my onboarding questionnaire)
I talk a lot about how Pinterest can help you “grow your business,” but like a lot of business-speak online, it can be a little vague.
For most service providers, their goals on Pinterest look like growing their email list by promoting lead magnets and blog posts.
For bloggers, blog traffic and overall account reach might be more important to drive traffic for ad and affiliate revenue.
Just like your personal and business goals, your goals for Pinterest can be whatever you want, but to use the platform effectively, you need to know what they are. Your strategy depends on it!
THE TAKEAWAY: If you want to start using Pinterest for your business, the first step is to figure out what your goal is. Then you can work on achieving it, because you totally can.
